The recently passed House and Senate FY '06 Budget Reconciliation bills will place an enormous burden on the poor in our country. Funding for health care, food stamps, foster care, and student loans will be cut unless our representatives are called upon to replace this funding when the bills reach the conference committee. Our Presiding Bishop recently said that, "nothing could be clearer in the Gospel than Jesus' identification with the poor...Congress and the President must come together and focus on poverty that exists across the nation..."
