Episcopal Church Women (ECW)

The ECW is the fellowship of all the women in the church. The organization meets regularly for study, service, crafts, fellowship and business. It has a significant role in outreach programs.

Ongoing ECW Activities and Projects Program - ECW meets every Thursday morning in the Parish Hall from September through May. Special programs with outside speakers are held at least once a month. Business meetings are held once a month. We also work on service projects. Specific details are given in the Sunday bulletin and monthly newsletter. Lunch is served at 12:30 p.m. except during Lent. All volunteers help on this and in stuffing the bulletins for the following Sundays' services.

Bible Study - Meets every Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in the multipurpose room, in the undercroft of the Church. Bible study usually centers on a book of the Bible or on a book pertaining to the Bible. At the present time the Study is led by Charles McKinley.

Rummage Sale - Our major annual fund raiser is held the second Thursday in October. Collecting and sorting begins on Sunday. Everyone who is willing to help is welcome. All kinds of used clothing, household items, furniture, books, etc. are accepted, with tax credits available. Proceeds are used for ECW expenses and outreach.
United Thank Offering (UTO) - UTO consists of contributions of small change made by all Episcopal men, women and children whenever they are thankful for personal blessings. Blue boxes are available at the Church Office or from ECW and are presented in November and May on designated Sundays. The money is used throughout the world for carefully selected projects.

Church Women United (CWU) - An associated organization CWU sponsors World Community Day, World Day of Prayer, Blanket Sunday (Collection of used and new blankets) and May Fellowship Day. CWU authorizes a Book Grant to qualified students.

Service Projects - Each year we work on various handmade projects. At present we are working on sleeping bags for the homeless and afghans for disaster relief. Knitted caps for seamen and the homeless are also collected.
The Hospice Education Memorial Fund - Our contributions provide educational material on Hospice Care for the terminally ill and their families in communities within the Diocese of Ohio. Personal contributions are welcome.
Brownies for College Students and Military Personnel - Each year in February, we remember those away by baking sending each a tin of homemade goodies.

Lenten Study - The first five Thursdays in Lent are given to a study of our faith. These programs are planned by our worship chairwoman. On the sixth Thursday we prepare palms for Palm Sunday.

Church Periodical Club - "Ministry of the Printed W~ the only organization in the Episcopal Church which is dedicated solely to providing materials from anywhere in the world to those who request them and cannot obtain them otherwise. Grants from the National Book Fund are made possible by donations collected on CPC Sunday.
Laurel Lake and The Elms (Nursing Home and Living) - We assist at Laurel Lake and The Elms by helping celebrate birthdays, and helping with bingo, reading, projects.

Gift Shop and Boutique - The glass case in the Parish Hall contains gift items which may be purchased at any time, such as hand-painted Hudson Maps, graces, the ECW Cookbook "Gracing your Table," sesquicentennial Christmas Weaver School Pottery, stationery and other items.

Golden Gems - Acme Cash Register Tapes - Acme meat and deli labels, Food Club labels, and other items are for benefit of various charities. Consult the ECW bulletin board for details. Please bring or send all "golden gems" to ECW gatherings or place them in the colorful bag on the landing.

Western Reserve Community Center - We assist in various ways by helping with food distribution, community toiletries, food coupons, and other items. Food coupons are collected in the box on the table in the Parish Hall stair landing.

Youth Development Center, Hudson - We are in process of training Literacy Volunteers to help with reading problems tutoring. Volunteers for crafts and special events are also needed.
Hudson Community Service - We send a representative to the monthly meetings of the organization which is comprised of representatives from various Hudson churches and community organizations and carries out social service and community events.

Financial Outreach - In addition to the regular projects we support, each year one-third of our funds are given to charitable organizations. The committee meets in January anyone in the parish may submit names of deserving organizations for consideration.   
           
Volunteer Needs:  
Although all women of the church automatically belong to ECW, we invite your active participation in any of our work. We are always open to suggestions on programs and projects of interest As we cannot carry out our extensive outreach without funds, we are always interested in new fundraising ideas and organizers.
